For a long time, I was searching for a European Floral Design course. After years of practicing Sogetsu Ikebana I liked to challenge myself in the world of European Floral design. But what was the right move for me? A couple of years I was waiting for the right moment. But what was the right way to learn more about European Floral Design?
In December 2016 I saw a post of Keith Stanley on Instagram. Keith is a 3-grade Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, so we had something in common.
This is Keith’s Instagram post about his graduation of the EMC Course:
“No time to waste”, I thought. The same day I sent Keith a direct message:
I’m reaching out to you because I have a question. On Instagram I saw that you passed the Europian Master Certification. Congratulation! I practice ikebana now for 11 years, and are thinking how to go further in my flower ‘career’. I have my 4th exam now and doubting to become a teacher. The thing is that in the Netherlands I am with 48 years old probably one of the youngest who practices ikebana. I would like to make a move to contemporary flower arranging without the strict rules of the Sogestu school. What are your experiences with the EMC course? Did you get a lot of inspiration from it? Kind regards. Desiree”
So with this recommendation, there was no doubt for me anymore. I entered this new territory by signing up for the course.
The EMC five-day intensive course has been designed to give students a foundation as a floral designer. For me as a trendwatcher and blogger, it is important to work with up to date methods and the latest trends. This course has it.
In the video below, you can enjoy the atmosphere in the classroom. The course boosted my passion for flowers, creativity and increased my design ability. I’m thankful to Keith that he recommended me this course. It doesn’t come easy, it doesn’t come natural—you have to work for it, no doubt about that. But I have found my new challenge, and I am grateful for that.
